Everything I need to know, I learned from a Belly Dancer in Asheville.

I just returned from an amazing trip to Asheville to the Love Shine Play Yoga Festival.  I spent three days in various classes, learning from teachers all over the country.  There was music, and singing, Drums and even a DJ spinning records.  Some classes were energy building, others calming, some took me out of my comfort zone, while others made me feel at home.  All were AMAXING.

When I received the schedule for the classes I went with my gut, which I often do, and selected classes the way I select what books to read, by the title.  So much to my surprise when I walked into my class on day 2, titled “Move with Intention”, that is was taught not by a yoga teacher, but by a belly dancer.  This woman was a force!  She owned a dance studio in Asheville for years and then when Covid hit, she went virtual.  After a few months she sold her studio space and moved to New York City.  All with the power of intention and manifesting.   She taught us to list out the 3 things in our life that cause us the most stress and then devise a plan to either get rid of it or change the relationship with it.  The fun part was she invited us to create a movement to use as a physical reminder of the change.  The not fun part, at least for me, was sharing that movement with the class by walking down the center of the room with everyone clapping for you.  Talk about outside my comfort zone.  But I am glad that I challenged myself to do it.  While it was scary, I was safe, and it was over quickly and I moved on.

Setting intentions and letting go and trusting were common themes in all the classes I attended.  Think the universe is telling me something?

Some key take aways I had-

  • Love has no fear

  • A relationship is between 2 people, ONLY and you are only responsible to give 100% to your part of the relationship.

  • When you set your mind to something, it will happen

  • Let go of anything and everything that causes stress in your life (or change the relationship)

  • Do something that is outside of your comfort zone.

I am excited to incorporate what I learned into my classes and share them will all of you!

This festival is held every year, the last weekend of July.  It is for all levels and for students as well as teachers.  There is a little something for everyone.  If you are interested, let me know and I will send you the info!
